Against Animal Cruelty Day (April 30) is a good time to highlight a real-life story that shows a side of animal abuse many don’t often see, the connection between domestic violence and the pets caught in the middle.

Helen SandersCatPAWS, a Southern California shelter, is a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and protecting cats. One of their most moving rescues is Benny the cat.

Benny was saved from a dangerous home environment where his safety was at risk alongside his owner’s.
